Lk 11: 42-46

“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and herbs of all kinds, and neglect justice and the love of God; it is these you ought to have practiced, without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! For you love to have the seat of honor in the synagogues and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces. Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without realizing it.”

One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us too.” And he said, “Woe also to you lawyers! For you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not lift a finger to ease them.

What are my priorities?

Have you ever struggled to figure out what projects and activities – among all the things you could be spending your time and energy on – you should be focusing on? Or wondered: “What are God’s priorities for my life?”

Here Jesus clarifies what’s important. Following the law has value, but it’s much more important to work toward justice, to spread God’s love and to be merciful to others.

Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis, the first Jesuit Pope, has emphasized these same priorities.

Today, ask God to show you how you can best invest your time and energy.

Yeazell, former Director of Campus Ministry at St. Xavier High School (Cincinnati) that will be published in 2022 entitled: Nothing Is More Practical Than Finding God: One Of These 10 Practices Can Make This Happen For YOU!

Prayer

All Loving Father, Son and Holy Spirit, help me “separate the wheat from the chaff.” Inspire and empower me to follow Jesus by promoting justice, spreading God’s Love and showing mercy!

Welcome to JesuitPrayer.org

Ignatian spirituality reminds us that God pursues us in the routines of our home and work life, and in the hopes and fears of life's challenges. The founder of the Jesuits, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, created the Spiritual Exercises to deepen our relationship with Christ and to move our contemplation into service. May this prayer site anchor your day and strengthen your resolve to remember what truly matters.
