Mt 11: 28-30

“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Sharing our burdens

Many of us are burdened and weary to some degree. It might be a worry about loved ones, health concerns, financial concerns, feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities or perhaps feeling alone.

As I read this Gospel passage, I could not help but think of the expression “Jesus, take the wheel”. Although it would be cool to see Jesus appear and take control when I get overwhelmed, he sadly does not. But what we can do is have Jesus take the passenger’s seat. Like the yoke, it is easier to be carried by a pair, rather than alone. Jesus is there like any friend would be. To share with him our joys, our struggles, our hopes, and our fears. He never grows tired of listening to us and endlessly renews us with his love.

What burdens are weighing on me? What burdens do I need to share with Jesus?

Prayer

In the Hands of God

More than ever I find myself in the hands of God.
This is what I have wanted all my life from my youth.
But now there is a difference;
the initiative is entirely with God.
It is indeed a profound spiritual experience
to know and feel myself so totally in God's hands.

Welcome to JesuitPrayer.org

Ignatian spirituality reminds us that God pursues us in the routines of our home and work life, and in the hopes and fears of life's challenges. The founder of the Jesuits, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, created the Spiritual Exercises to deepen our relationship with Christ and to move our contemplation into service. May this prayer site anchor your day and strengthen your resolve to remember what truly matters.
